Project Title: Riyadh Public Transport Network Art Masterplan
Project Type: Citywide public art strategy and master planning for Riyadh’s Metro and Bus Networks
Overview:
Secured multi-billion dollar investments to develop and implement a citywide infrastructure strategy that repositioned Riyadh as a global cultural destination. Created and led joint ventures with Hollwich Kushner Architecture, UAP Company, and Futurecity Arts to co-develop the comprehensive public art masterplan. This strategy integrated branding and placemaking to elevate civic identity, proving how marketing and urban aesthetics can reshape a city’s global perception.
My Role:
Served as lead consultant for the master planning, procurement, and phased implementation of public artworks throughout the Riyadh Public Transport Network (RPTN), encompassing Metro Lines 1 through 6, transfer hubs, park-and-ride facilities, and the expanding Riyadh Bus Network.
Directed the development of a scalable Public Art Master Plan to be implemented in tandem with the ongoing construction of Riyadh’s transit systems. This work included defining curatorial direction, creating a strategic phasing model, and drafting technical and governance protocols to support the long-term integration of public art.
Collaborated with urban planners, government officials, and design teams to produce a Strategic Placement Manual outlining site selection criteria, architectural drawings, renderings, technical specs, demographic insights, heritage references, and curatorial vision.
Oversaw the end-to-end framework for artist selection and project delivery. This included artist identification, RFP development, competition management, guideline drafting, and panel facilitation, as well as community engagement and outreach strategies. Developed accessible public-facing content to build awareness, inclusion, and cultural participation.
This initiative continues to shape how culture is embedded into infrastructure, reinforcing the belief that marketing and storytelling are essential tools in expressing a city’s identity, legacy, and future ambition.
Project Size: 5000+ locations and stations citywide
Status: Research, master plan, curation, and program development (ongoing)
